CONTROLLER
Classification: Salaried, Exempt - Full time Position
Reporting directly to the President

JOB DESCRIPTION: Summary/Objective: The Controller will oversee the company’s financial health through oversight of the accounting and financial reporting process. The Controller will establish and maintain the organization’s accounting principles, practices, procedures and internal controls, preparation of financial statement and annual budgets, ensuring tax compliance, overseeing the Company’s insurance policies, and assisting with legal issues as they arise. As a team leader, the Controller will oversee the accounting team and have overall responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTROLLER: GENERAL: Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. o
Exhibits demonstrated understanding and experience with revenue cycle management, accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, treasury, audit, tax, insurance, and information technology related to financial reporting.
Provides leadership, mentors, and develops team members.
Oversee the practice’s financial policies and procedures to ensure they meet all standard internal control requirements. Propose enhancements when appropriate.
Tax: Work with external accounting staff to ensure the practice is compliant with relevant Federal, State and Municipal tax laws and statutes. Oversee and manage all Sales Tax and Vendor Insurance Audits.
Insurance: Oversee the Company’s various insurance policies to ensure are appropriate and provide adequate coverage for associated risks and preserving assets.
Cash Management & Banking: Manage cash and related banking relationships. Responsible for bank account reconciliations.
FINANCIAL: Maintains all financial records, including:
Ensure the month end accounting close process is completed timely and accurately and all reporting supports the senior management’s goals and objectives.
Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly & annual) financial & operating reports, including comparisons against the budget and analysis of variances. Proactively report findings for senior management’s review and suggests corrective action when necessary.
Interpret and analyzes the results of operations including expenses, income and profitability trends and compare operating results against business plans/budgets.
Budgeting: Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of the Company’s annual operating budget and monthly forecast. Lead the budgeting and forecasting process; this includes forecasting cash flow needs and compiling complete cash forecasts with supporting financial analysis.
OTHER: Work closely with the senior management and outside consultants on Special Projects, as necessary.
Ability to manage risks and ensure company compliance.
Ad-hoc and special projects at direction of President.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Minimum of 4 years combined public private experience.
Proficiency with General Ledger and Project Management systems. [Initial focus will be on a) assisting in selection of new accounting system and conversion from QuickBooks; and b) integrating the new system with a new project management system]
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel/Word.
Proactive and motivated self-starter - ability to take ownership and run projects/tasks independently with limited resources.
Flexible and willing to adjust in a fast and challenging environment.
Knowledge of construction accounting and ability to work in a project management system helpful but not required.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position with 40 hours or more of work. The days and hours of work are the normal business hours from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Availability for on-call work after hours and on weekends is required, as needed.
