Job Description:

The Developmental Education Student Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting and empowering students enrolled in developmental education courses at Normandale Community College. This position combines group and individual meetings with program improvement to create a comprehensive support system for students.

The Coordinator provides individualized attention and guidance to students, helping them set and achieve SMART goals, overcome academic barriers and challenges, and monitor their progress throughout the program. The Coordinator also leads biweekly group learning sessions to foster a sense of belonging and academic self-efficacy among students, and plan the curriculum for these meetings.

The Developmental Education Student Coordinator plays a vital role in increasing enrollment, retention, graduation, and transfer rates, and participates in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in developmental education and student support.

This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including achieving equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

Required Qualifications:

Essential: 

• Bachelor's Degree in education, business, student affairs, or related field 
• 1-2 years of work experience in community college environment or 1-2 years related work experience to developmental education students 
• 1-2 years of experience working with customers 
• Experience with data collection and analysis 
• Related supervisory work experience and/or program management 
• Functional proficiency with professional databases and software such as D2L, Microsoft Office Excel, and Microsoft Office Outlook and a willingness to trial technological changes 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred: 

• Master's Degree
• Fluent in an additional language, Spanish or Somali preferred
• 3-5 years of work experience in community college environment
• 3-5 years of experience as working with Developmental Education programs or students
• 1-2 years of project or program management
• Excellent organization and administrative skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively
• Proven leadership skills and ability to take initiative on projects
• Strong written skills
• Ability to independently coordinate multiple tasks and respond to a wide range of situations in an organized manner
• Demonstrated program development or improvement
• Experienced tutor, instructor or similar experience with developmental education
• Experience/knowledge of equity best practices, experience supporting the success of a diverse group of students
• Presentation, or public speaking, or teaching skills, sufficient to plan lead large peer support sessions.
