Job description
In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Health Information Services Clerk Supervisor manages the daily operations of HIS and leads the department in maintaining the security of the complete medical record as well as accurately data capturing the patient visit. The Supervisor will assist the Director with operations of all Health Information Services functions and serve as the liaison between various departments within the Health System and Health Information Services. Implementing strategies and tactics that will develop and continually enhance the department will be a high priority. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions:
- Develop and oversee staff productivity measures while balancing quality metrics.
- Plans & develops policies and procedures to improve services, operations, and provider relationships.
- Provides monthly status updates on goals performance.
- Plan and implement strategies to attract talent, promote effective recruitment, retention, and development of diverse work teams.
- Actively serve as a documentation SME on all medical staff committees and interdisciplinary teams
- Provide education to the medical staff regarding documentation regulations, changes and needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor quality plan. Oversees audits for compliance, maintain the accuracy of the medical record. oversee the capture and analysis of data regarding operational performance and quality control, ensure all coding is completed with quality and regulatory compliance as the primary objective.
- Works directly with our clinical partners to ensure all documentation is accurate and completed timely.
- Implements action plans to correct deficiencies, create efficiencies and/or improve financial operations.
- Utilizes evidence-based practice when available and communicates standards for its use in all policies, procedures, guidelines, and education.
- Maintains strong inter-departmental relations through open communication and collaboration.
- Interview, hire, orient, supervise, develop, evaluate, and retain staff in conjunction with the Director.
- Maintains records/logs on staff annual competencies, education, orientation, absenteeism, etc. and validate compliance with system policies, personnel policies, and other appropriate policies, standards.
- Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities, as necessary.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration or related health field required.
- In lieu of education, will consider a minimum of 10 years of HIS managerial experience.
- RHIT or RHIA required unless previously employed prior to January 2023.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
