Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager . This position will drive membership acquisition and the member experience through managing and developing strong financial relationships with current and prospective members, Selected Employer Groups (SEGs), associations, and community groups. The Business Development Manager will work interdependently with all other departments within the credit union to grow our organization in all key metrics with a high focus on new membership acquisition. Provides leadership, motivation, training, and staff development necessary to enable employees to promote the benefits of Credit Union products and services and builds strong financial relationships with our members, Selected Employer Groups (SEGs), and community groups within our defined Target Market Segment.
The Business Development Manager will assist the Director of Member Experience with compliance and special projects, including product/service research and development, statistical analysis, and profitability analysis. Establishes and maintains engaging relationships with current and prospective HR executives at SEGs, Associations, Non-Profit Groups, Auto Dealerships, and Community Leaders. Designs and implements customized strategies for increasing member penetration within the markets we serve. Increases membership penetration and usage of services to meet growth and retention goals set by management. This role is a working manager where some travel is required for specified SEG visits, however, most out-of-office visits are expected to be within the community close to the headquarters and branch offices, developing relationships with businesses, non-profits and community groups. This role is also expected to participate in organizational and departmental projects.
Essential Functions
Management
- Manages Business Development employees, continuously coaches, provides direction, organization information and feedback, and evaluates employee performance, on a consistent, timely, and regular basis.
- Leads by example, able to maintain and grow relationships with existing SEGs
- Evaluates manager and employee performance, on a consistent, timely, and regular basis.
- Assists in facilitating and attending SEG visits, community events, and community outreach including financial literacy.
- Monitors and manages cost efficiency and effectiveness of Business Development activities and promotions.
- Assists in preparing and managing the annual Business Development budget.
- Develops effective strategies to foster collaboration across Business Development team members and the rest of the organization.
- Oversees and audits the accuracy and compliance of all memberships, including business accounts for the Business Development team.
- Assists in setting goals and objectives for the department.
- Ensures department and team achieve set monthly and annual goals.
- Validates the quality of service delivery through the Net Promoter Score, Ease of Use, and other service metrics.
- Reviews, validates, approves and ensures the HR department receives signed Sales Incentive sheets for Business Development Officers for payroll processing as required.
- Recommends and assists in the coordination of all necessary staff training and ensures effective cross sales of products and services that meet member's individual needs.
- Oversees digital efforts that Business Development Officers are involved in.
- Fosters teamwork with other departmental mangers.
- Hosts weekly meetings with team and weekly one-on-one coaching with team members.
- Recruits, hires, and develops staff for Business Development department.
- Participates on the management team by contributing ideas and concerns.
- Mentors, coaches, and evaluates staff within area of responsibility.
- Provides monthly and weekly management reports pertaining to member/department activities.
General

- Understands and effectively uses technology, within SkyOne Marketing standards, including social media to promote the credit union and coach team members on how to effectively use technology.
- Assists in live chat initiative and works within digital retail team to provide an effortless experience for our members through the live chat application by monitoring team members and assisting with management escalations.
- Assists in developing and implementing business development plan and tactical strategies.
- Coordinates development of long-term strategic business development plans.
- Assists in developing, updating, and communicating department policies and procedures.
- Conducts sales efforts in compliance with NCUA regulations for field of membership and Credit Union operational procedures.
- Opens, updates, maintains, and approves membership accounts for members including business accounts.
- Enters loan applications and effectively communicates with the lending team and members throughout the loan process.
- Ensures Credit Union compliance with all state and federal regulations pertaining to business development activities.
- Keeps management up to date on changes within the legal, regulatory and competitive environments, which may impact the Credit Union's potential for growth.
- Complies with BSA and OFAC regulations within area of responsibility.
Sponsor/SEG and Partner Relations
- Researches, recommends, develops, and executes plans to effectively acquire new SEGs and new consumer markets that fit our target market and are within the credit union's field of membership, and identifies and analyzes profitable growth opportunities within the SEG organization, associations, and community partners. Develops effective strategies to foster collaboration across Business Development team members, the Member Experience Division, and the rest of the organization.
- Establishes business relationships, opens business memberships, and refers merchant services.
- Maintains key contacts within SEGs and assists in establishing new contacts.
- Negotiates support and Credit Union employee attendance for onsite visits including SEG employee orientations and other events.
- Acts as liaison between SEG and Credit Union management; develops effective communication with regard to any and all issues, projects, and opportunities.
- Able to provide and/or facilitate in-person and virtual seminars/webinars and meet and greets, including financial education, to SEGs and other selected groups.
- Effectively supports a consistent and positive "brand image" within the marketplace including digital channels.
- Keeps abreast of employee benefits and corporate culture at targeted SEG sites.
- Identifies and analyzes profitable growth opportunities within the SEG organization, associations, and community partners.
- Identifies SEG member service issues and works with other departments to improve these issues in a timely manner.
- Keep abreast of and ensures business development compliance on state regulations pertaining to foreign language translations (i.e. Spanish).
- Assists in maintaining a contact management database, including key facility contacts, facility information and site statistics (size, growth, shrinkage, relocation plans, available marketing channels, history, results of past sales efforts and product usage records).
Membership Acquisition
- Works closely with management and the Marketing department to develop effective business development marketing and support material and to conduct business development campaigns.
- Holds sales meetings to discuss goals, achievements, and performance improvements on a regular basis.
- Monitors and manages cost efficiency and effectiveness of Business Development activities and promotions, and effectively track profitability on campaigns.
- Effectively tracks profitability on campaigns.
- Assists in developing product mix and profitability goals.
- Works with non-profit and community groups to bring awareness to the credit union and acquire new membership.
- Consistently exceeds target levels of business development goals.
- Partners with Retail Delivery, Operations Support and Member Contact Center departments to meet shared membership growth goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of four years business degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years management experience with experience in retail delivery, or Business Development.
- Community Relationship Development Experience.
- Must be willing to travel.
