THE POSITION
Under direction, the Associate Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing and performing a variety of complex professional field and office engineering work in connection with the Design, Development, Special Projects, Transportation and Construction Sections of the Engineering Division and other related engineering projects; may serve as project leader with supervisory responsibility; and performs other duties as assigned.
The work in this Associate Civil Engineer vacancy will be concentrated on Capital Improvement Plan projects and the Sidewalk Program.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and characteristics:
• Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices including public works design and construction, master planning, subdivision and surveying, environmental permitting, and public works contract code
• Demonstrated project management and consultant oversight skills and experience in the design and construction of complex engineering projects
• Work independently and collaboratively with others
• Exercise sound judgment, initiative, flexibility, and creativity
• Excellent communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible public works related professional engineering experience in civil, wastewater, water, transportation or related engineering field.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or related field.
License: May require the possession of a valid CA driver’s license at the time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
Certification: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of CA with good standing.
Other Requirements (partial list): Willingness and ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime, and be available on call as required; attend meetings, conferences, and seminars during work and non‑work hours. (See full job description here.)
