As the Human Resource Generalist, your core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Relationships: The relationship with each school leader, the superintendent, and HR teammates is open, collaborative, trusting, and forward-thinking.
- Foster and maintain engaging relationships with team members to create a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Cultivate trust among team members, promoting open communication and a sense of security in sharing ideas and concerns.
- Lead by example in being accountable for individual and team goals, ensuring commitments are met consistently.
- Participate in goal setting for both you as an individual, the team, and the organization to ensure we are reaching our highest potential.
- Collaborate with team members to identify and address challenges, working together to find innovative solutions.
- Openly communicate workload needs and support, ensuring clear and effective communication within the team.
Employee Experiences: Employees are treated with the utmost care, conversations are professional yet relational, and follow-up is timely and accurate.
- Works fervently to eradicate both unconscious and conscious bias from all employment practices.
- Drives HR data and analytics tools to present actionable insights to HR and organizational leaders to support data-driven decision-making.
- Helps support staff in uncovering opportunities to advance their careers based on their interests and qualifications.
- Supports staff during their career pathway programs, including alternative pathway programs, leader development programs, and other professional development designed to advance people in their careers.
- Collaborates with school-level department managers to identify skill gaps and develop effective training and development programs to enhance employee capabilities and drive career growth
- Helps with employee and supervisor training, including training on Choice benefits, policies, and procedures.
- Owns protocols for handling employee terminations and layoffs, ensuring they are conducted respectfully, legally, and ethically in collaboration with the school leadership team.
- Stays abreast of human resources matters, including laws, regulations, policies, and best practices and actively suggests improvements to align appropriately.
Employee Engagement: Implement, support, and drive initiatives that enhance workplace satisfaction, collaboration, and overall morale at the schools you support.
- Approaches responsibilities and work relationships as a trusted partner for school leadership, ensuring collaborative and transparent communication.
- Systematically leads Central Office level efforts to increase employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Drives employee engagement initiatives to enhance morale, productivity, and overall job satisfaction
- Works diligently to increase transparency and clarity around roles and responsibilities for school employees, including but not limited to maintaining organizational charts and revising job descriptions.
- Conducts and analyzes onboarding and exit interview data, surveys, and suggestion boxes and makes recommendations for cultural improvement.
- Researches, develops, and administers compensation programs, ensuring competitive pay and internal equity.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements employee recognition and reward programs.
- Notifies Payroll and Benefits and other relevant stakeholders of employee hiring and terminations, resignations, and employee status changes on a timely basis.
- Consistently uphold and promote the organization's core values, serving as role models for ethical behavior and cultural alignment.
Employee Relations : Employee relations issues are handled with care, supporting the employee and the school leader while working through established HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Serves as a thought partner and sounding board for school leaders as they navigate difficult employee relations issues and various crucial conversations.
- Acts as a neutral party between staff members and school leaders to interpret policies, employment law, legal and regulatory issues, and to evaluate concerns, conduct and document investigations
- Takes the lead on investigations into complaints, allegations of misconduct, harassment, discrimination, or other workplace issues to ensure investigations are thorough, impartial, and compliant with legal requirements, with the support of the school leadership team.
- Conducts thorough investigations in complex situations and may include legal representation and the determination of disciplinary action and documentation retention.
- Supports school leadership with conversations, documentation, and recommendations and tracks solutions and outcomes.
- Drives employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing for schools and leads the team to ensure this information is communicated to all school employees
- Communicates proactively, efficiently, accurately, and with a positive tone to all stakeholders, remembering that the Human Resources Generalist is often the first point of contact and potentially the only person at the central office the employee ever communicates with, regardless of the situation.
- Actively elevating high-risk situations to be remedied quickly to protect the organization and schools from employment-related risk.
Staffing: Schools are fully staffed with qualified educators and support staff personnel.
- Works side by side with the Director of Talent Acquisition and school leaders to execute recruitment strategies that attract and retain high-quality and passionate teachers and support staff.
- Along with the Director of Talent Acquisition, manages the end-to-end recruitment process, from sourcing and screening candidates to conducting interviews and extending employment offers.
- Engages in effective negotiation and communication to ensure a smooth and positive candidate experience.
- Collaborates with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and contribute to the development of targeted recruitment strategies.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date candidate records and effectively communicates with key stakeholders throughout the recruitment lifecycle.
- Coordinates, trains, equips, and monitors school-based hiring teams (I*We).
- Ensures new employees have what is needed from the central office and school personnel to be effective in an organized, proactive, systematic, and efficient manner during the onboarding process.
- Actively promotes open positions, the company, and the educational model on LinkedIn, the company website, and other publications.
Essential Skills and Competencies : While we will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications/experience:
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum five years of experience in Human Resources or related field.
- A baccalaureate degree is required.
- Proficient use of HR software, including communications software & programs.
Desired Requirements:
- PHR or SPHR certification
- Masters degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
Work Location : Flexible. The ideal candidate will be located in the Greater Grand Rapids area and can travel to our Central Office located at 5251 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509
