Roles and Responsibilities:
Patent Portfolio Management.
Manage a global patent docket and work with outside counsel to build and maintain a robust and meaningful patent portfolio.
Work with business leaders and technical teams to identify new inventions and patent opportunities.
Patent Landscape Work. Monitor third-party patent activity in relevant technology areas. Where appropriate, work with the technical teams to evaluate patents and develop solutions that design around the patented technologies.
Open Source. Provide advice and counsel on open source license compliance.
Contracts and Agreements. Provide support in contract negotiations with strategic clients and partners. This role will be a member of the legal team that works on development agreements, master services agreements, joint development agreements, and others.
Training. Provide IP training to business and technical populations.
Project Support. Provide support to product development teams and act as the first point of contact on a variety of product development topics such as data regulations, data privacy, international trade control issues, and others.
Qualifications and Experience
Law degree (JD or equivalent) and member in good standing with at least one state or the District of Columbia Bar.
Registered to practice in patent matters before the USPTO.
A strong technical background in computer science or computer/electrical engineering is strongly preferred.
Four or more years of post-law school patent law experience strongly preferred.
Previous in-house experience is preferred.
Experience with open source, SaaS software development, machine learning, and IoT is preferred.
This position will require some international travel on an occasional basis.
Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US without sponsorship.
