Position Summary:
Rutgers School of Dental Medicine ( RSDM ) is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV to work in the Department of Oral Biology. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will perform highly specialized stem cell mediated tissue regeneration and microbiology studies.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Independently performs specialized research operations ongoing in the laboratory.
- Assists in developing strategies for the standardization and evaluation of existing procedures, and modifying when necessary.
- Assists in proposing and standardizing new procedures where required.
- Generates, compiles, and presents data with appropriate conclusions relevant to the research project and writes manuscripts suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Assists with preparation of grant proposals, presentations and publications.
- Maintains the laboratory equipment to meet unique needs of the research activity.
- Performs experiments for gene expression, protein expression, and histology in vitro and in vivo.
- Performs microbiology experiments to determine antimicrobial activity.
- Performs mammalian cell cultures (oral stem cells, neural crest cells, primary mouse and human cells and immortalized cells).
- Perform surgery (dental and bone surgery) in rats.
- Maintains animal colonies including weaning animals and genotyping.
- Actively seeks new collaborative projects within the department and externally.
- Assists with training the undergraduate and master's students.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in stem cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, oral biology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in a combination of animal handling, basic microbiological techniques (phenotypic analysis; biofilm formation; preference for anaerobic or microaerophilic organisms and BSL -2), molecular biology, genetics (real time RT- PCR ; RNASeq), and/or biochemistry (histology' protein analysis; proteomics) techniques are essential.
