Work Arrangement:

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Design Studio in Pasadena, California on a full-time basis.

The role:

Are you interested in working in one of the most exciting design studios in the world? GM Design Ad'svanced Studio in Pasadena, California is seeking a Fabrication Design Manager to lead a team of sculptors that converts early studio A-surface into three dimensional models for the fabrication of design properties and show vehicles. In this role, you will be responsible for performing assessments of surface and build quality and supporting studio personnel in the development of solutions to engineering and design challenges. You will collaborate with engineering, fabrication and creative design to deliver surface releases that meet all critical design, engineering and release criteria. You will coach and mentor our sculptors and lead exciting initiatives. We are looking for a team player dedicated to a philosophy of designing to simplify assembly and to reduce material costs while leading others to do the same.

What You’ll Do

Exhibit a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concerns 

Manager Responsible for leading a team creating digital surfacing/design engineering of proof of concept and bench top models.   

Manager Responsible for team creating B-side, build sections, and build surface data for fabrication of show vehicles. 

Assist studio personnel in developing solutions to engineering and design problems 

Work directly with management, leads, and project manager to achieve timely and successful builds 

Facilitate build meetings and peer reviews 

Build and maintain good working relationships with Shop, Project Management, and Design 

Intuitive to new technology and applying them to improve existing techniques 

Knowledge of specialty/concept vehicle build and fabrication practices 

Ability to solve difficult design problems 

Willingness to innovate and take measured risks 

Supervise quality control and build schedule 

Coordinate input from internal and external customer to better understand customer needs and or perceptions.  

Keep abreast of current product developments and trends in area of expertise 

Perform assessment of surface quality 

Adhere to corporate data management processes (Teamcenter, SharePoint etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email etc.)

Strong problem solving and analytical skills to effectively develop solutions to engineering and design issues.  

Creative background with strong emphasis in fabrication and digital applications 

Areas of expertise and knowledge in NURBS modeling, Sub-d modeling, polygon modeling, rapid prototyping, NX, surfacing class A, surfacing class B, Animation, Dynamo (parametric design)

College degree or equivalent industry related experience considered

Compensation:

The expected base compensation for this role is: 135,800 and 208,100 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

You also need to include general information about potential commissions, if applicable.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
