Assistant Professor of Experimental Psychology, Tenure-Track

Otterbein University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Psychology , concentration open. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, as well as to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who will contribute to the department's efforts to enhance diversity and provide an inclusive learning environment for all.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-time faculty teach seven courses per year (a temporary course reduction for new faculty is available). The successful candidate would be responsible for teaching courses in introductory psychology, research methods, and upper-level courses in at least one of the following areas: behavioral neuroscience, cognitive science, industrial/organizational psychology, or development and aging. Candidates may also teach Psychology courses in university-wide general education or interdisciplinary programs. All faculty are required to maintain an active research program incorporating undergraduate students and to contribute to the university through advising and service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology or related field is required. Specialty area is open. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, an active program of scholarship involving undergraduates, teaching, advising, and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, and the liberal arts tradition. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong background in research methodologies and data analysis.
Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach courses in either 1) behavioral neuroscience, 2) cognitive science, 3) industrial/organizational psychology, or 4) adult development and aging. All candidates should possess a willingness to develop additional courses in their area of interest.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Psychology at Otterbein University currently has six full-time faculty and a number of committed and talented part-time faculty serving roughly 140 majors, along with our general education programs and students in Health and Sport Sciences, Nursing, Education, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. We offer a BS and a BA in Psychology, and we practice a mentorship model that incorporates our undergraduate students into our labs and leadership roles in the classroom. Our teaching and scholarship are also engaged with the local community. We prize academic freedom and autonomy in our professional lives, while creating a collegial and respectful community. Our students are twice as likely as the national average to pursue graduate study, and we have recently developed a pathway in partnership with Antioch University that will allow seniors to begin working toward their Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in a CACREP-accredited program while completing their undergraduate degree.
