Inside Machinist (Level II, III)

Job description

Aerotek is hiring for a skilled Inside Machinist with both Manual/CNC and program editing experience within a shop environment. Will be working in a secured setting in Chesapeake, VA. Ideal candidate has at least 4+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment. Must be able to read prints, use measuring tape and ability to solve math problems on the spot.

Job Requirements:

Must have experience with both mills and lathes as well as manual equipment to be considered. Must have experience with precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers.

Job Description:

Manufacture, repair and overhaul various types of systems and components associated with submarine and surface ships. Set-up and operate all types of machining tools, lathes, mills, grinder, saws. Involves heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery. Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, high level of critical thinking/reading comprehension, and overtime are required.

Daily Responsibilities:

·       Requires limited supervision/oversight and is familiar with the trade qualifications and can perform most tasks required as an Inside Machinist.

·       Must have the ability manufacture components from stock or modify parts in accordance with basic drawing requirements.

·       Must be able to understand and perform the set up and operation of various machines (lathes, mills, grinders, saws, etc.) and hand tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use precision measuring instruments such as outside diameter and inside diameter micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools, and possess the ability to accurately record readings and measurements.

·       Proficiency in reading basic blueprints, drawings, manuals, technical work documents, measuring and marking dimensions and reference points on material, selecting proper tooling, attachments and accessories as well as manufacturing fixtures to hold work pieces.

·       Working knowledge of basic feed and speed rates and machining characteristics of various metals and composite materials.

·       Ability to machine basic parts to close tolerances ensuring that the finish requirements of the drawing specifications are achieved.

Compensation:

Contract to hire position paying anywhere from $23 - $30/hr. based on experience and the interview process (see below):

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

5+ years in a machine shop setting.
