POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Radiological Technologist I DEPARTMENT: Imaging Services REPORTS TO: Imaging Supervisor/Manager/Director EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt APPROVALS: EFFECTIVE DATE: JOB SUMMARY: The Radiological Technologist I performs radiological procedures at a technical level sufficient to provide adequate diagnosis. This position performs a variety of diagnostic radiography imaging procedures to provide data for diagnosis and monitoring of disease and injuries in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. Assist physicians and radiologists in performing Radiological Procedures on patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric. Establishes and maintains quality control procedures for Imaging Services. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Performs and/or assists with all Radiographic Procedures with efficiency and quality according to the approved Departmental Procedures Manual. • Reviews images for proper positioning, technique, and patient identification to be sent to the Radiologist as a completed examination. • Demonstrates the ability to correctly image and identify anatomical structures as it relates to diagnostic imaging and uses proper patient positioning. Correctly marks images with appropriate notations and initials. • Demonstrates proper use of patient shielding devices and uses ALARA consistently while performing job tasks. • Completing the patients' intake process, taking patients' histories, and preparing and educating patients about the imaging procedure. • Reviewing patients' charts and Doctors' notes before the examination and maintaining patients' records during and after procedures. • Preparing radiopharmaceuticals for contrast in the diagnostic images. • Calibrating the equipment to ensure clear, usable images are taken of the correct area, as specified by the Doctor. • Logging and organizing image results, developing film, assisting with the interpretation of the radiograph results, and consulting with Radiologists to determine if other images need to be taken. • Performs finalizing functions include, but not limited to, limited coding using radiology information systems or medical record systems to provide timely and accurate patient information and charge capture. • Ensuring the proper sterilization and storage of the equipment, maintaining radiographic equipment, and reporting any equipment failures. • Coordinating with the radiology department to schedule and complete radiographic procedures. • Maintaining up to date knowledge of current radiology practices. • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. • Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication. • Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. • Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks. • Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair. • Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. POSITION DESCRIPTION Page 2 of 4 • Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services. • Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary. • Completes and attends monthly training assigned. • May float to other areas of the hospital as needed. • Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: • No prior experience required, please see licensure requirements below. • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills. • A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care. Education: • NA Licensure/Certifications: • Certified Radiologic Technologist, CRT, for state of employment required. POSITION DESCRIPTION Page 3 of 4 • Certified American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT, required. • Current Basic Life Support, BLS, from the American Heart Association, AHA, required. •
