Job description
Primary Function:
Make mechanical and electrical repairs to plant machinery and equipment.
Tools and Equipment:
Mechanic hand tools, carpentry tools, masonry tools, measuring tools, welding torches, tow motor, drill
press, carts and dollies, commercial vehicles, band saws, table saws, lathes, electrical meters and
tools etc.
Material:
Wood, conduit, pipe, concrete, plaster, sheet rock, solder, flux, electrical supplies, machine parts, etc.
Direction of Others:
May be required to give guidance and instruction to the Maintenance Person B
Working Procedure:
Under the guidance and direction of the department supervisor, with instruction from the Maintenance
Technician, the Maintenance Person
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.
1 Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
2 Shall receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor.
3 Shall maintain all job documentation, forms, labor vouchers, instruction sheets, etc., where
accuracy and timeliness are paramount.
4 Shall maintain a clean and orderly working environment when maintenance work is complete.
5 Shall be capable of working from detailed machine drawings, electrical sketches, charts, tables, etc..
6 Shall assist in the movement of furniture, equipment, or other machinery where special rigging or
heavy duty moving equipment may be required.
7 Shall be capable of installing castable in hearths, furnace doors, fluid beds and arches.
8 Shall be able to repair equipment with electric or gas welding, cutting metal with torches as
necessary.
9 Shall attend and successfully complete fork truck training.
10 Shall successfully complete training in the operation of the front loader..
11 Thread or join gas pipe which may require silver soldering, bending and fitting of pipe to close
tolerances.
12 Shall be able to trouble shoot electrical problems, in addition to installing conduit, pulling wire,
installing and connecting 110 volt and 220 volt circuits and equipment as well as 440 volt lines to
the panel.
13 Shall be capable of repairing pneumatic and hydraulic equipment including regulators, controls,
and cylinders where honing is not required.
14 Can perform all the functions of handling hazardous waste, including neutralization and discharge
of waste water, muriatic acid, hydrofluoric acid, and other wastes used or generated in the building.
15 Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
16 Shall attend and successfully complete lockout / tagout training classes.
17 Shall perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Job responsibilities will require tolerance to all weather related conditions, and the various conditions
found throughout the plant.
Special Skills Required:
Requires a minimum of two (2) years on the job training as a Maintenance Person B, or equivalent
educational experience.
Must possess a current Missouri drivers license.
Must acquire or own working mechanics hand tools.
Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to perform the physical demands of the job.
