Job description

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University's Department of Biobehavioral Health (BBH) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar to work with Dr. Hannah Schreier and her colleagues in both BBH and on the Child Health Study. This position will broadly involve working on NIH-funded research investigating the long-term impacts of child maltreatment experiences on child health in a large, prospective cohort, with a focus on the physiological pathways connecting child maltreatment to later health. The primary emphasis will be on examining metabolic and inflammatory outcomes, but interest in connecting these data with other data regarding, e.g., (epi)genetics and neurodevelopment, through collaboration with local colleagues is welcome.

Primary responsibilities of the candidate will generally include data analyses; preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations; and participation in interdisciplinary research groups. The scholar will have extensive opportunities to publish, access to exceptional resources to facilitate their independent research, and will be part of a dynamic group of interdisciplinary scholars. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on an ongoing longitudinal study and have access to extensive already-collected data for secondary analysis.

Qualified individuals will have earned a Ph.D. in biobehavioral health disciplines such as psychology, psychoneuroimmunology, health and human development, epidemiology, or biostatistics, and have demonstrated research excellence and productivity. Preference will be given to candidates with strong statistical skills (particularly multi-level modeling/longitudinal data analysis), and ideally expertise and experience in other relevant research domains (child maltreatment, stress/health, individual differences, metabolic and inflammatory markers of disease risk, etc.).

The initial appointment will be for one year; funding is available for yearly reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability (at least two years of funding are available). The position provides salary and benefits based on the standard for NIH postdoctoral fellows. Applications must be uploaded via the link provided, and include a cover letter, CV, and the names of at least 3 individuals who could provide recommendations. For questions, please contact [email protected]. Please indicate “CHS Postdoc Opportunity” in the subject line of all email correspondence.

Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and the diversity of its workforce.

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusive excellence that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive.
