Job Summary
Pharmacy Technicians assist and support Pharmacists in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients. Pharmaceutical care includes gathering the appropriate medications, entering data into a computer system, compounding the medication, verifying appropriate stock, assigning prices, and other duties related to dispensing medication to a patient. Additionally, Pharmacy Technicians operate the automated systems that fill medication orders, generate computer patient profiles, and update computer order systems.
Reporting to the Pharmacy manager and/or their designee, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for a wide range of supportive duties to assist the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication so that patients receive consistent care. The Pharmacy Technician is required to understand all pharmacy processes relating to processing and filling prescriptions. Works only under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist and does not perform duties that can only be legally performed by a registered Pharmacist. Daily activities are set forth but not limited by a responsibility list and monitored by general and direct supervision from the staff pharmacists on duty. Has daily working contact with many other health care personnel from various practices.
Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with TH’s executive management, community organizers, the general public, TH’s patients, physicians, colleagues, assigned staff, vendors, contractors and consultants for the purpose of providing and exchanging information. Pharmacy Technicians are required to support the Mission, Vision and Values of Tuerk House, Inc. and embrace and support the Performance Improvement philosophy of Tuerk House, by promoting personal and patient safety.
Essential Job Functions
Employees at this level perform basic pharmaceutical duties. They work under direct supervision of Registered Pharmacists and may be managed by higher level Pharmacy Technicians.
• A Pharmacy Technician I typically, in accordance with established procedures –
• Basic knowledge of 340b and retail pharmacy operations
• Assists in preparing prescriptions by selecting the pharmaceutical or accessory from stock; counts, pours, reconstitutes or compounds, packages, and labels the product as required
• Maintains, replenishes, and keeps up-to-date inventory of medications, accessories
• Prices prescriptions and pharmaceutical accessories; performs cashiering functions, as required and other POS system duties.
• Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.
• Ability to tactfully and respectively interview patients, or family member, regarding prescriptions and insurance
• Answers phone calls with skill, takes messages, and refers phone calls when appropriate.
• Performs general housekeeping continually to maintain a neat, clean, professional-appearing environment.
• Maintain prescription drug files and records in good order.
• Performs daily pharmacy compliance checks e.g. refrigerator log, room temp log, etc.
• Completes the pharmacy daily tasks
• Attends required continuing education programs, TH pharmacy meetings, and TH mandated in service/education
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required
1. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Maryland.

Physical Demands
1. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
2. Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
3. Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects in excess of 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and repetitive motions.
