Job details:

Location: Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Shreveport, LA.

Shift: Available during Clinic's working hours between (8:00 AM - 4:40 PM)

Requirements and qualifications:

The physician must:

• Be Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Disease
• Be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency
• Be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements.
• Be registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current
• Provide a copy of the current DEA certificate
• Provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history

Duties:

The physician(s) shall:

• be available and present in the clinic during normal Overton Brooks VAMC clinic hours, which will be established. Currently, normal clinic/Critical Care/ICU hours are 8:00 am - 4:40 pm.
• See patients within 30 minutes of the page when medically indicated for ICU Admission.
• Be available for inpatient pulmonary and critical care consultation forward as well as for Emergency room
• cover the range of Pulmonary services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility
• Provide inpatient consultations in pulmonary.
• Evaluate and manage patients in the chest
• Be responsible for appropriate documentation of clinic notes, consultations, and procedures using the computerized patient record system (CPRS).
• Process and take action upon all clinical alerts in CPRS and prescription renewals, sign and cosign all CPRS notes, return messages regarding patients, and respond to patients and inquiries in a timely manner.
• Complete electronic encounter documentation for each patient encounter, with all encounters completed daily and coded accurately.
• Be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
• Provide comprehensive clinical Pulmonary services including the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disease.
• Be present in the operating suite for all Pulmonary procedures.
• Provide consultative services at the patient's bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic, setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic. Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consult.
• Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
• Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Pulmonary clinical or surgical patients.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
