Community Affairs Associate (Marketing)

Starting at $21.50 to $25.00/hour

The Community Affairs Department increases community awareness and involvement in programs, services and community events. Staff shares information with residents, public officials, visitors, the business community, and City employees utilizing all means of communication.

DUTIES

• Design newsletters, flyers, brochures, social media posts, cable TV slides, and ads for local newspapers.
• Write press releases, informational materials, correspondence, and other items. Update information on the City of Troy website and government cable channel.
• Assist with community events including: Troy Farmer's Market, Troy Family Daze, Christmas Tree Lighting, Veterans Day ceremonies, and summer concerts.
• Responsible for setting up and tearing down community events.
• Coordinate events and interact with vendors and customers.
• Effectively perform time management skills.
• Greet department visitors and answer phones. Answer questions regarding City services, community events, and general information.
• Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

• InDesign experience is required, used mostly for the creation of newsletters, flyers, brochures, ads, and social media posts.
• Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field.
• Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
• Must exhibit excellent communication skills and must be tactful when interacting with the public.
• Must possess excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Prefer experience with InDesign.
• Must have at the time of application, and maintain, a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards).
• As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background check and pre-employment physical including drug screen, including marijuana.

EVALUATION

*Applicants MUST attach three writing samples to their application to be considered, including at least one sample created using InDesign and one sample displaying graphic design.* Samples must be the applicant's own work (indicate your level of involvement on each sample i.e. contributor/sole author, writing, formatting, etc.). Samples must have been written in the last five years. Each sample should be two pages or less. Samples will not be returned to the applicant.

HOURS

Part time, year-round. Hours vary up to 30 per week.

June through October work hours will include Wednesday 1pm - 8pm.
