Accounting Supervisor

Job description

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for assisting the CFO in performing finance and accounting-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the CFO in supporting International Ministries (IM). This position plans, schedules and directs the work of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger staff.

Responsibilities
·         Assist with the day-to-day finance and accounting operations relating to the AP AR functions including all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

·         Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures.

·         Support the CFO in monthly financial reporting.

·         Assist with the planning for and managing all activity in support of the annual audit.

·         Assist with collaborating cross-functional teams, such as Global Missions and Donor Services to recommend and implement process effectiveness and efficiency improvements.

·         Supervise Finance Team members with functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and restricted grants administration.

·         Manage team members to ensure proper reporting is completed in accordance with the monthly closing schedule.

·         Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, quality, creativity, and commitment to IM’s mission.

·         Work with the CFO to establish and monitor team performance in accordance with IM’s strategic goals, set objectives and priorities, and conduct regular performance reviews.

·         Assist the CFO to Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels. Assist with the day-to-day finance and accounting operations relating to the AP AR functions including all IM; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

·         Back up for Payroll processing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education, License, Certification

-Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience (job-related)

-5+ years non-profit fund accounting experience, faith-based experience preferred.

-Supervisory experience with a strong appreciation for collaboration.

-Demonstrated experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

-GAAP combined with strong technical non-profit accounting background.

-ORS, fundraising (including deputized fundraising), grant making and OFAC regulations and sanction programs.

-Non-profit accounting, especially accounting for unrestricted, temporarily, and permanently restricted net assets and endowments.

-Corporate cash flow management and techniques.

-Accounting for Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Pooled Income Funds and Split Interest Agreements.

-Technological soundness with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Specifically, NetSuite, Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, and Microsoft Word.

-Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.

-Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

-Ability to prioritize workload, multitask and problem solve.

-Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non- finance minded.
