Job description

The function of the Technical Specialist is to research, evaluate, and recommend the proper use of current information technology including, but not limited to, complex arrays of hardware, operating systems, applications software, desktop management and other applications that form the foundation of systems and toolsets used by both users and IT staff at SGVMC. Stays abreast of information technology developments, provides opinions on emerging technologies, and aids in adopting technology and incorporating it into existing systems and procedures.

 

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, AHMC’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

  1. Leads or participates in research and development programs or other projects related to the evaluation, selection, implementation and use of advanced information technology.
  2. Provides support and maintains all hospital hardware including, but not limited to, the following: computer systems, desktops, peripherals, time clocks, servers, and network equipment.
  3. Solves technical problems that are referred by others, independently or in concert with senior staff, vendors, or outside experts as assigned.
  4. Tracks problem resolution by external parties, ensures follow-up, and communicates status to all involved.
  5. Maintains a high level of expertise and competence in current and emerging technologies that are pertinent to the department.
  6. Tracks vendor developments to guide the organization’s migration to new releases of hardware and software.
  7. Develops opinions and positions regarding the effective and practical uses of technology. Alerts IT personnel to technological advances and suggests the benefits of such technologies.
  8. Helps to ensure that all technologies in use are compatible, consistent, optimally configured, and in compliance with established architectural and technical standards.
  9. Attends hardware and website-related meetings throughout the Hospital as required.
  10. Undertakes ad-hoc assignments as requited to react quickly and positively to new or emergent situations.
  11. Maintains confidentiality of data regarding security, patient, employee, financial and hospital data.
  12. Complies with all IT Policies, Procedures and Standards including: Project Management tools/methodologies, Network/Systems/ Workstation Security, HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations associated with Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI).

Advanced degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Business or Health Care required or minimum of 5 years health care related experience. Prior experience with same or related computer hardware and equipment desired. Several years experience supporting end-user applications with Microsoft products preferred. Two years experience installing and maintaining helpdesk.
