Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care, or Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care

Position Overview:
The salary range for this position is $163,100 - $226,100. 'Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Veterinarian with advanced training in small animal emergency and critical care. Completion of a residency program approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) by the effective date of appointment is required; ACVECC board certification is preferred. Clinical experience and competence in small animal emergency and critical care (SAECC) medicine is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching is required. For the Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical SAECC position, a documented record of creative scholarship or the potential to develop a clinical research program in SAECC is required. Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857. Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical: The position includes a 70% (Professor of Clinical track) or 90% (Health Sciences Clinical Professor track) clinical effort to the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Individual will be responsible for directing, instructing, and supervising veterinary students, house officers, and technicians; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.
Teaching: The primary teaching responsibility will be direct daily supervision and instruction of senior veterinary students and house officers rotating through the service. Other responsibilities will include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the VMTH; and 3) participation in all aspects of the didactic and clinical house officer training program of the VMTH.
Professional Competence: Advance the discipline of SAECC within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in providing high quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to establish reputation for clinical excellence locally, regionally and nationally, depending upon level of appointment. Must demonstrate clinical competence and be recognized for accomplishment in a focused area of clinical practice.
Creative Scholarship: Faculty in the Professor of Clinical track are expected to advance the clinical discipline through creation and dissemination of new knowledge with documentation in peer-reviewed publications. Creative/scholarly activities are required for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor track, but scholarship is typically derived directly from primary clinical responsibilities and does not require peer-reviewed publications.
Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.
