Job Description
Pay Range: $122,000 to $143,500 per year
The Sr. System Engineer (Network) will work closely with IT staff and end users to provide effective and efficient business solutions in the assigned Infrastructure Functions. This position will monitor and analyze assigned Infrastructure Solutions to determine the optimum configuration and design of the Foster Farms Infrastructure environment. This requires a certain degree of creativity and latitude.
- Provide baseline support and enhancement; including monitoring, maintenance, support, improvement and integration of assigned network, server, operating systems, storage/backup/recovery, and infrastructure-based products (Infrastructure Functions) in the high availability, high uptime Foster Farms computing environment.
- Solution selection and implementation of new vendor-supplied and/or in-house developed software, hardware, operating system, database, storage/backup/recovery and security solutions (Infrastructure Solutions) within assigned Infrastructure Functions.
- Establish (analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining) and enforce standards relating to the use of assigned Infrastructure Functions.
- Take the necessary steps to resolve system outages within the assigned Infrastructure Functions environment(s) in a timely fashion. This includes:
- Arranging support from vendors, directing efforts of other IT staff or escalating to other IT management as appropriate.
- Ensure assigned Infrastructure Functions are efficient, effective and secure.
- Responsible for forecasting utilization/growth of production/test environments and analyzing, defining, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining appropriate controls/ security to protect Foster Farms from adverse situations or catastrophe (analyze, design, develop, implement, maintain and insure system backup/recovery and disaster recovery systems are in place and functioning properly).
- Ensure that any system fixes are documented and shared with all appropriate support staff within Infrastructure Department and other IT functions.
- Analyze and resolve the highest impact problems and issues which occur in company systems. In addition,
- Create instructions and establish guidelines to perform the functions of all positions supporting assigned Infrastructure Functions .
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the requirements, design and program functions included in systems configurations. Analyze, define, design, develop and maintain/enhance Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) for all assigned Infrastructure Functions.
- Monitor all systems/solutions for compliance with these SLA’s and take appropriate steps to resolve noncompliance situations. Analyze, define, design, develop and maintain/enhance change control policies, processes and procedures and monitor for compliance with these change control policies and procedures.
- Make recommendations that are used in setting overall department direction.
- Coordinates and controls the technical activities associated with very highly complex initiatives. For highly complex initiatives, develops detailed task plans and coordinates resources in conjunction with these task plans, in conjunction with the Foster Farms Systems Development Methodology.
- For all assigned projects insures detailed task plans are consistently developed and utilized in conjunction with the Foster Farms SDM to insure their accurate and timely completion
Qualifications
- BS in Computer/Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 6 to 10 years of experience in the following areas:
- Design and implementation of network systems in an enterprise environment
- Working with routers, switches, firewalls, and common network administration and intrusion detection tools
- Working with and strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Network protocol suite
- Data center technology and network monitoring solutions
- Advanced knowledge and experience with layer 2 Network protocols
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, etc.)
- Advanced understanding of and experience with network security features, principles and best practices
- Advanced understanding of and experience with enterprise wireless networking
- Knowledge of and experience with Server automation and monitoring tools
- Strong knowledge of networking, fiber channel connections, and switches in a data center environment.
- Strong knowledge of connecting data center equipment within a multiple data center, high up-time and high availability environment.
- Advanced understanding of VOIP technology and experience in administering and troubleshooting VOIP systems.
