The Fiber Superintendent holds the primary responsibility for overseeing all activities within the Stock Prep Department, ensuring seamless operations round the clock, seven days a week. Responsibilities include troubleshooting fiber issues upon the arrival of wastepaper trailers, managing personnel matters such as labor relations, schedules, and vacations, assisting with maintenance concerns, enhancing safety protocols, monitoring stock trends and inventories, conducting equipment checks, and collaborating with other departments to optimize stock throughput.
Additionally, the Fiber Superintendent will contribute to maintenance, process improvements, and machine changes. With seven direct salaried reports, this role holds considerable influence and decision-making authority regarding the overall machine operation. Weekend and weeknight on-call responsibilities at the mill are expected.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Aid Operations personnel in resolving manufacturing and maintenance issues to ensure safe operations and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate on capital and maintenance projects.
- Troubleshoot fiber production across manufacturing areas.
- Assess procedures and suggest improvements for quality, efficiency, and productivity, conducting trials as needed.
- Lead various team initiatives (Safety, Lean-sigma, etc.) to align with company objectives.
- Provide coverage for Assistant Superintendent/Supervisor roles as required.
- Participate in weekend production department rotations.
Who Will Be a Great Fit?
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years of experience in paper making operations.
- 5 years of experience as a paper machine supervisor.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP experience preferred.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement in Safety, Cost, Productivity, Quality, and Morale.
- Coachable with a willingness to adapt daily.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical discipline.
