Mission

The mission of The Women's Center is to provide safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking.

• Summary/ Objective : The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the supervision of weekend shelter advocates, interns, and volunteers, including scheduling and coaching. A ssist with coverage for the shelter shifts and the 24-hour Hotline. Assigned work shifts will include weekends and holidays to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program .

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Assist in the supervision of shelter advocates, interns, and volunteers, including scheduling and coaching.
• Work with the Shelter Manager to maintain a schedule for advocates, interns, and volunteers to ensure coverage for the 24-hour Hotline.
• Provide coverage for hotline/shelter when there are vacancies.
• Serve as primary contact for Shelter Advocates while on duty.
• Ensure clients receive trauma-informed services, including crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, advocacy, and information and referrals through follow-up calls and in-person advocacy.
• Demonstrate client-centered, trauma-informed crisis intervention and advocacy to all clients so that other staff learn how to apply these techniques.
• Make regular rounds to ensure that residents and program areas are safe and secure.
• Maintain accurate and complete records and statistics in compliance with agency policies. Support advocates in maintaining complete and accurate records
• Work with clients and colleagues to ensure the smooth and orderly operation of programs.
• Mediate interpersonal problems between residents.
• Communicate with other staff to resolve problems with residents.
• Ensure confidentiality of all clients engaged in services.
• Adhere to organizational compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
• Completes other duties as needed and/or requested by the supervisor to align with the mission and vision of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills:

• Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse, as well as child abuse and neglect.
• Two to four years' experience working with trauma survivors.
• Strong processing and crisis intervention skills, including group facilitation
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills. Ability to talk and write effectively in order to convey information appropriately to the needs of the audience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Sensitivity to issues faced by survivors of interpersonal violence.
• Ability and willingness to work both individually and as part of a team with other staff in the provision of services to clients.
• Active listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Reading Comprehension - understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
• Time Management - managing one's own time and the time of others.
• Service Orientation - actively looking for ways to help people.
• Coordination - adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
• Critical Thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Education/Experience:

• Associate degree in Human Services or another social services field.
• 2 or more years of experience in a shelter environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Two to four years of experience working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence in a trauma-informed way.
• Experience working in a shelter environment a plus.
• Supervisory experience in a non-profit environment preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend English. Bilingual - Spanish/English preferred.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to utilize critical thinking- such as using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

• Ability to ambulate up and down stairs.
• Walking throughout the shelter residence and movement between various buildings is required.
