Purpose: Provides outpatient only services for healthcare related imaging to patients of all ages. The Ultrasound Tech assists in developing and administering sonographic procedures and policies as well as organizes machine maintenance and performs periodic calibrations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Performs breast ultrasound. Assists Radiologist with fine needle aspiration, cyst aspiration, ultrasound biopsy, and needle localization.
- Performs abdominal, retroperitoneal, small parts, Vascular, obstetric and gynecological scan and completes essential forms related to exams.
- Communicates critical findings to Radiologists.
- Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
- Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
- Cares for as well as operates necessary equipment
- Performs necessary maintenance with usage of other Special Testing equipment
- Maintains cleanliness of all work areas
- Maintains a supply of clean laundry: sends out all soiled laundry twice weekly, and assumes responsibility for receiving clean laundry; distributes clean laundry to appropriate areas
- Places orders for all supplies and equipment as needed to maintain adequate stock, utilizing principles of cost effectiveness
- Assumes assigned responsibilities in a cooperative effort to maintain departmental quality assurance
- Demonstrates awareness of patient needs and education, striving to provide excellence in quality patient care
- Provides assistance to co-workers as is necessary and appropriate, demonstrating a consistent effort to increase the speed and efficiency of all departmental functions
- Provides clear, complete instructions to all patients, answering questions as accurately as is possible
- Oversee or designate a qualified individual to oversee the radiation protection program for employees, patients, and other individuals in the surrounding area
Other Duties: QUALIFICATIONS Required :
- Education: Completion of an ultrasound-training program with ARDMS certification
- Licensure: Current RDMS (BR) registry and North Carolina license
- Experience: General radiology skills and at least two to three years of experience as a breast sonographer.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients and co-workers.
