POSITION DETAILS

This role reports to the Spaceflight Software Director. All work for this role will be performed onsite at Xplore's offices in Redmond, Washington.

Xplore’s GNC engineer will be responsible for the design and development of orbital dynamics simulation and satellite command and control algorithms to ensure mission success and satellite reliability.

This position requires strong working knowledge of astrodynamics, control theory, and C/C++ coding for a Linux-based environment. The successful candidate will be able to adapt to changing mission requirements, work independently, and have a good knowledge of satellite systems technology.

Requirements

Must be a current U.S. citizen or current lawful permanent resident of the U.S.

Must be able to work onsite daily at Xplore's Redmond, Washington offices.

Master's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields.

3+ years of demonstrated experience in satellite command, control, navigation, and trajectory design.

5+ years of demonstrated experience with nonlinear controls.

3+ years of demonstrated experience with spacecraft attitude determination and propulsion.

Strong software skills in C/C++ and familiarity with Python and MATLAB/Simulink.

Creative self-starter attitude and ability to work in an agile environment with minimal direction.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or above with 4+ years of experience in relevant fields.

Authored journal or conference papers in relevant fields.

Demonstrated experience on successful flight programs in government, industry, or academia.

Experience with flexible body control, orbital maneuvering, filtering, fault management, software development, and navigation filtering.

Strong understanding of classical dynamics, orbital mechanics, modeling and simulation, and software development.

Working knowledge of electronics development and testing.

Responsibilities for this role include:

Perform satellite orientation and trajectory design and optimization.

Work with team members to design guidance and control algorithms.

Assess stability of nonlinear controllers.

Test and develop autonomous navigation systems.

Develop high fidelity 6 degree of freedom simulations and conducting Monte Carlo analysis.

Write and testi flight software applications in C++.

Conduct make/buy decisions on critical hardware.

Support the mission operations team on critical decisions.

Top Priorities to be Accomplished During the First Six Months:

Build simulations to visualize the various satellite operating modes (asleep, pointing, detumbling, etc.).

Create flight code to capture data from navigation instruments and return position and orientation.

Create flight code to transition the spacecraft orientation to point to a desired target.

Assist with the creation of spacecraft operation procedures.

Assist with the testing of flight hardware and software as it relates to GNC operations.

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for this role is $120K-$160K
