Job description


Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the Teachers by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, Assistant teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

Duties

Requirements

Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
Follow all center policies and state regulations.
Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience.
High energy.
Ability to work well with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
A strong understanding of child development.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification. (Will provide training if not already certified)
Must clear full background check.
Must pass health screening.

About Us

First Church Early Learning Center was established in 1956 and we are a NAEYC accredited program. FCELC is looking for a positive, responsible, and adaptable individual to join our family. As a Lead Teacher at First Church Early Learning Center, this person would be expected to have effective classroom management, plan and implement an emergent curriculum, maintain Office of Early Childhood and NAEYC standards and communicate daily with parents.

Hours for this position may vary between 8:30 A.M. and 2:00 P.M., Monday/Wednesday/ Friday. The necessary hours for this position would be based on the candidate's role in the classroom(s) as well as the needs of the school.

The ideal candidate would have 3-5years previous experience as a lead teacher working with young children. This person would be knowledgeable about the Connecticut Preschool Assessment Framework (PAF) and would be required to use them as they help create and implement lesson plans while focusing on the individual developmental needs of the children we serve (ages 3-6).

Preference will be given to child care professionals with:

A Bachelor degree in Early Childhood or a related field

or Associate degree in Early Childhood education

Fingerprinting and Background check required

CPR/First Aid/Medication Administration certificated preferred (training can be provided)

Up to date with COVID 19 vaccinations and able to wear a mask while at work
