Job Title: Director of Rehab Services
Job Summary:
Multi-disciplinary leadership opportunity for four (4) community hospitals seeking to focus on the provision of quality rehabilitation care services across the spectrum of care. This leadership role will be focused on developing an internal multi-disciplinary team that dynamically staffs our 4 hospitals. We are seeking an innovative leader that can not only streamline the rehabilitation service line, but also identify and develop new service offerings. Must be a licensed physical therapist, occupation therapist, or speech language pathologist.
Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.
Essential Functions:
- Direct multi-disciplinary rehab in the establishment and integration of therapy processes and procedures into practice, ensuring quality patient care and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Develops professional staff and managers through mentorship, continuing education, practice council and other profession or educational opportunities.
- Design, implement, and evaluate initiatives to support achievement of targets in patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (JACHO, Medicare, etc.) as well as an adherence to best practice objectives.
- Initiate and implement quality improvements in individual, team, and organizational performance to facilitate resolution of quality issues.
- Establish and maintain a measurement system for therapy hours and the integrations of productivity data into therapy staffing guidelines.
- Develop, implement, and manage annual budget, initiating cost saving and/or revenue enhancing initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Admitting on issues of Discharge Planning and Length of Stay.
- Ensure that timely and high-quality documentation is available for all patients.
- Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
- Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
- Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
- Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
- Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
- Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
- Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.

Communication/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of clinical/business practices as normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation-related Allied Health discipline or business administration. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of previous professional management experience, including both fiscal responsibility and quality care.
- Quantitative and analytical ability required to evaluate existing programs, promote research activities, and develop new programs.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership and communicate effectively with patients, patient families, referring parties, managed care organizations and payors.
- Working knowledge of information technology tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and appropriate web-based applications and services.
- Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.

- Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of previous professional management experience, including both fiscal responsibilities and quality of care.
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
- A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.
Education:
- Bachelor ’ s degree in rehabilitation-related allied health
- Master’s degree preferred
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Occupational Therapy License for the state of California or
- Current Physical Therapist License for the state of California or
- Current Speech-Language Pathologist License for the state of California
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) required.
