Position Summary Director
Human Resources Full time
Primary Responsibilities: The Director of Human Resources will lead the planning and execution of the University's human resources functions, ensuring alignment with University strategic and operating plans and in support of Southeast Missouri State University's mission and vision. The Director of Human Resources is a senior leadership position and will facilitate an organizational culture that promotes employee engagement and maximizes employee potential. This role will oversee all human resources activities, including but not limited to:
- Identifying legal and governmental requirements affecting human resources functions and ensuring that institutional policies, procedures, and reporting practices support compliance with such requirements
- Conducting and overseeing investigations of reported policy violations, discrimination, or harassment, and advising senior leadership and local management on appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
- Serving as the University's chief representative and negotiator in labor relations matters, including leading University proposals for annual wage discussions and tri-annual labor contract provisions
- Leading university talent acquisition strategies, including faculty and staff recruitment, assessment, selection, and onboarding
- Overseeing management and implementation of a comprehensive employee benefits plan offering, including major medical and pension plans
- Overseeing human resources operations, including HRIS data systems and payroll
- Administering an employee performance management program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization
- Overseeing an employee training and development program
- Ensuring operational efficiency, utilizing all HR systems' capabilities to maximize the effectiveness of Human Resources business processes
- Supervising, managing, training, and overseeing a human resources support staff
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration or related field
- Progressively responsible supervisory experience in a human resources department setting
- Proven in-depth knowledge of all facets of human resources including talent acquisition, compensation, employee benefits, faculty and staff development, payroll and HRIS
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to human resources
- Experience in organized labor relations activities
- Experience in handling difficult and complex employee relations and performance issues
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management, problem recognition, coaching, mediation, and resolution skills
- Strong organizational capability and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a variety of people at all levels of an organization
- Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment requiring discretion and confidentiality
- Experience leading change initiatives with evidence of high emotional intelligence
