Grand Canyon University is seeking a full time Commercial HVAC Tech for our Facilities Department. The Commercial HVAC Tech Analyze, plan, and perform preventive maintenance of HVAC systems. Plans shutdowns for maintenance and repair pumps including chill water, heating water systems. Troubleshoot, repair, and make modifications to HVAC systems. This role will be located on our Main Campus at 33rd Ave and Camelback.

What you will do:

Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.

Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.

Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.

Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.

Cuts and threads pipe.

Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.

Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.

Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.

Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.

Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.

Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members.

Assists in planning of preventative maintenance schedule for all plumbing systems and schedules work schedule to accommodate maintenance activities.

Ensures all work complies with building and safety codes and environmental protection requirements.

Ensures all work meets requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems.

Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a plumber for commercial firm.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Must have sufficient knowledge of water distribution and wastewater disposal for commercial buildings.

Must have sufficient knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance.

Must demonstrate a strong knowledge in the correct usage of tools, power tools, and equipment as related to plumbing systems.

Must have the physical skills and endurance to move about campus and the buildings in order to fulfill daily maintenance tasks and activities.

Self- motivated and shows initiative to start and complete tasks.

Must be familiar with, and follow, safety requirements and precautions.

Detail oriented with good troubleshooting skills.

Must be able to present professional demeanor in all interactions.

Good communications skills with a good command of the English language.

Willing to respond to emergency requests outside of normal work hours.

Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed.

Must have own transportation to be able to go to all GCU owned and/or leased buildings (Tempe, Scottsdale, etc.).

Must have own tools.

Must be willing to operate work ticketing system and update to be able to inform status of work.

Must be willing to participate in rotating on call schedules.

Ability to pass background investigations.
