The Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center (SSPC) at Duquesne University is excited to welcome applications from distinguished scholars to be its Visiting Phenomenology Scholar for spring semester 2025.

Founded more than 130 years ago by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne University places a premium on excellence in scholarship and the pursuit of truth through research on the human condition and experience. Since the middle of last century, phenomenology has played a central role at Duquesne in this research. At Duquesne, phenomenology has been pursued in a signal way through the SSPC, which has for over three decades played a significant role in the development of phenomenological research and teaching in North America, Europe, and Africa. At Duquesne, phenomenology has been a major focus in the fields of philosophy and psychology, and it has also been pursued in fields of nursing, music, education, theology, and communication and rhetorical studies.

The scholar will be appointed for a minimum of eight weeks of the semester, with a stipend of $20,000. Relocation and housing expenses will be supported and a modest discretionary account (e.g. books or conference travel) will also be provided. The scholar will be provided with on-campus office space, an e-mail account, and all Gumberg Library privileges. The Scholar may audit courses if desired. Responsibilities include teaching two 3-credit graduate seminars on a topic of scholar's choosing, offering one public lecture, and holding weekly office hours for consultation by students and faculty.

The Scholar will have access to the educational and research opportunities and resources at Duquesne University, as well as the University community, who will be able to learn from the scholar's research and insights. The successful candidate will possess an earned Ph.D. in a related area of study and demonstrate a strong record of teaching and scholarship in the field.
