The State of Connecticut, Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Operations Support Unit has five (5) current openings and future anticipated openings for a Connecticut Careers Trainee (CCT) with a target class of Tax Corrections Examiner 1. This recruitment will be used to develop a pool of candidates to be hired as vacancies occur. These positions will be located in Hartford, and are full time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with a hybrid arrangement for some on-site work and some telework.

Selection Plan

Prospective employees of the Department of Revenue Services will undergo a tax compliance check and criminal background check prior to an offer of employment being made. Additionally, all employees of the Department of Revenue Services are prohibited from engaging in the preparation of tax returns in exchange for financial compensation; working at a tax preparation service (either as an employee, contractor, subcontractor, self-employed individual or other designation); and working at an accounting firm or similar type of business with responsibility for the preparation of tax returns (either as an employee, contractor, subcontractor, self-employed individual or other designation). Outside business interests and outside employment must also be disclosed prior to an offer of employment being extended.



For current state employees, salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for mastering the skills necessary to satisfactorily complete the training program for a professional position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The Operations Support Unit is responsible for functionality-based duties concentrating on taxpayer demographics, financials and correction of taxpayer accounts. They generalize in all tax types administered by DRS and perform a limited range of tasks. The mission of the Operations Support Unit is to provide assistance to all of the Operations Tax Teams. The unit provides account related service in a timely manner by: reviewing and correcting tax returns; maintaining and adjusting account financial and demographic data; generating bills and issuing refunds, responding to taxpayer inquires via phone, fax, email and written correspondence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
