Job Summary The Space Structures Laboratory in the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at Caltech is looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer with experience in design, testing and integration of CubeSats and smallsats. Candidates for this position should be familiar with space mission design and also have experience in working with actual flight hardware and software. Candidates with a Master's degree and experience in the design, integration and testing of spacecraft electronics, mechanical design and fabrication, and flight software are encouraged to apply.
Essential Job Duties - Design, develop and test mechatronic systems for deployable structures and in-space assembly payloads.
- Design, write and test flight software for deployable structures in space.
- Integrate, test, and operate deployable structures in space.
- Conduct literature research, investigate research data, and provide interpretation.
- Contribute to the documentation and presentation of scientific results in the form of abstracts, journal articles, publications, conference and internal presentations, etc.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the Aerospace Labs.
- Other duties, as assigned (e.g., professional development, conferences and meetings, etc.).
Basic Qualifications - MS degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with PCB design software.
- Experience with Solidworks or equivalent CAD software.
- Proficiency in C/C++, Linux Kernel and Drivers, VHDL/Verilog, Python, and Git version control.
- Low-level drivers for the flight software from manufacturers datasheets and libraries to command and control cameras, motors and electronic and mechanical sensors and actuators.
