Job description

Job Title: Part Time Lower School Learning Specialist
Division: Lower School
Reports to: Head of Lower School
Job Description: We seek a part-time Lower School Learning Specialist for
the 2024-2025 academic year who will report to the Head of Lower School and work
closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning. The Learning Specialist will work
collaboratively with homeroom teachers to plan and execute lessons, making
modifications and accommodations to allow all students to access the lower school
curriculum.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Provide direct targeted instruction to students, both individually and in small
groups.
● Create individualized learning plans based on student evaluations.
● Foster self-advocacy, support academic challenges and executive
functioning, and work with students on the development of reading, written
expression, and mathematics.
● Provide academic and emotional support to students.
● Model fairness and proper behavior.
● Work closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Child Psychologist,
School Counselor, consulting Occupational Therapist, consulting Speech
Therapist, Division Head, and the lower school faculty and staff.
● As a member of a teaching team, meet regularly, share resources, and
collaborate effectively.
● Frequently communicate with families about their child’s progress (telephone,
email, conferences, and report cards).
● Be knowledgeable of the information in each student’s Digital Learning
Profile.

● Use appropriate technology to enhance instruction and communication, and
the school portal for report writing and sharing information with parents
weekly.
● Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development.
● Perform duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.
● Attend Lower School and all-school faculty meetings, as well as workshops
on professional growth and development days held after 3:00 P.M.
● Attend Parents’ Night in September/October, Open House etc.
● Work in collaboration with the Admission Office in screening applicants.
● Participate in orientation and mentor programs.
Skills and Requirements:
● Masters Degree in Special Education
● Certification in Orton Gillingham or Wilson Phonics preferred
● Knowledge about a range of learning disabilities, social-emotional well-being,
test anxiety, and general executive functioning challenges and their impact.
● Knowledge and experience with project-based learning and inquiry-based
teaching methods
● A strong affinity for young children, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
● Knowledge of academic and social developmental benchmarks.
● Excellent communication skills and ability to constructively collaborate with
colleagues and parents.
● Must embrace the use of technology to enhance instruction and
communication.
● Strong capacity in cultural competence; ability to work, learn, and teach in
cross-cultural environments.
● Must have a demonstrated alignment with the Mission and Virtues.
