DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW


Each residential college at UC Santa Cruz employs a team of academic advisors who partner with undergraduate students to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post graduation plans, and thereby make meaningful change for themselves, their families, and communities. Consistent with UCSC's Principles of Community and NACADA's Core Values, advisors honor the identity and experience of students, and encourage reflection, responsible decision-making, and academic self-efficacy. Professional academic advisors in the colleges demonstrate competence and pursue professional development to ensure their students benefit from current theories and approaches related to academic advising.


College advising serves as the generalist branch of academic advising at UC Santa Cruz, focusing on campus-wide graduation requirements (general education, university, college requirements) and applying academic senate policy to support undergraduate degree progress. College advisors work in concert with major and minor advisors who advise on majors and minors more often with students once they are declared in a major. College advising works collaboratively with others at the college and across the campus to ensure a coordinated approach to student academic success and equitable outcomes.

JOB SUMMARY


The College Academic Advisor applies skills as seasoned, experienced academic advisor, partnering with students as they make decisions about their academic journeys. The College Academic Advisors provides advice to undergraduates as they enter and move through the university, in both one-on-one and group settings. The scope includes orientation and transition to the university for both frosh and transfer students, major exploration and declaration, and academic success, in addition to general education and university requirements.


In this role the incumbent will monitor student compliance with several academic senate regulations, utilizing a variety of technology systems and software to gather, interpret, and act on data. The College Academic Advisor approves a number of student administrative transactions as representatives of the college, which requires significant, responsible decision-making and strong administrative skills. The College Academic Advisor work independently under general supervision.



APPOINTMENT INFORMATION



Budgeted Salary: $64,000 - $66,900/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.
