Certified Pharmacy Tech II

Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:30PM, Sat/Sun 9:00AM-1:00PM, rotating shifts

The Certified Pharmacy Technician II is accountable for facilitating responsible provision of pharmacy services through the performance of retail pharmacy functions, such as overseeing pharmacy purchasing and inventory, processing prescriptions, record keeping, billing, immunization administration and providing excellent customer service.

Advanced Patient Care and/or Technical Duties
• Verify prescriptions as part of the Tech Product Verification Program OR
• Administer immunizations as allowed by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy per regulations OR
• Oversee advanced billing responsibilities for the Waterloo Region retail pharmacies OR
• Oversee purchasing and inventory for Waterloo Region retail pharmacies
Data Entry, Prescription Filling and Record Keeping
• Taking a prescription, in different forms, or patient specific data and entering the information into the patient profile.
• Inventory data/record keeping (including invoices and annual inventories)
• Selecting correct medication to fill, counting out, placing in appropriate dispensing container
• Other duties as assigned
Clinical Excellence/Customer Service
• Receiving/Clarifying incoming prescriptions and assisting patients over the phone or in-person (in/out windows/drive-up.)
• Communication with wholesalers and return companies.
• Other duties as assigned
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

• Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
• Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
• Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Experience

3+ years of retail pharmacy experience as a certified pharmacy technician.

AND

Completed Tech Product Verification training
OR
Completed Immunization Training and maintenance of requirements for immunization administration required by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy for CPhT immunization administration
OR
Completed CPhT UPH Retail Purchasing/Inventory training OR
OR
Completed CPhT UPH Retail billing training
License(s)/Certification(s)

Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician at the time of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English.
Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
