UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery within the Department of Psychiatry seeks to advance understanding of trauma recovery and develop interventions that improve recovery. The foundation of our past and current success is our fantastic team of faculty and staff. Our team believes that achieving new discoveries for trauma survivors around the globe, via the conduct of observational studies and randomized controlled trials, is an extremely meaningful and satisfying way to spend one’s professional life. We work to place the trauma survivor at the center of all of our decisions and to serve them through our work. We continuously work to create a community where our team members serve trauma survivors and actualize their career growth and individual leadership potential.

The Business Officer will work under the direction of the Institute Director and Institute Managing Director, completing institute and grant administrative duties related to ongoing research trials at The Institute for Trauma Recovery. This position will develop research study budgets, provide financial support to the Institute’s clinical trials team, and create overall Institute budgets and projections. In addition, this position will monitor institute and study expenditures, expense tracking and reconciliation, assist in the budget planning and preparation of grant submissions, regular reporting of research financial reports to the Director and Managing Director.
The Business Officer will work to organize, execute, and monitor the implementation of new and existing clinical trials and institute budget tracking procedures. The primary purpose of this position is to provide management of technical assistance for and administrative guidance in the preparation and processing of complex research grants and contract proposals and for their procurement, reporting, and administrative management when awarded. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, and internet browsers
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with accounting practices, budgeting, and bookkeeping processes and procedures
- Accounting expertise and knowledge of accounting principles and practices is essential to be successful in this position
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to identify needs and develop and implement improvements with evaluation expertise
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving and researching skills
- Ability to clearly, concisely, professionally, and effectively communicate in writing and verbally with staff, faculty, and individuals in other organizations.
