Job Summary
Uses and/or develops tools, theories, skills and knowledge of Nursing Professional Development (NPD) to improve the practice of the nursing and other healthcare staff that care for University Hospital/Clinic patients..
Job Duties
- Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual Hospital performance improvement targets.
- Provides daily oversight of the department to include meeting financial goals and objectives and supporting the activities and programs of the education team.
- Works collaboratively with clinical leaders to properly identify and prioritize goals and objectives to meet the needs of the department and/or organization.
- Evaluates efficacy and efficiency of clinical educational programs and curricula as well as any associated presentations and learning activities.
- Employs processes and workflows to enhance organizational support of clinical education and workforce development.
- Adheres and facilitates adherence by other personnel to all policies and procedures, code of ethics, JCAHO standards, and nationally recognized standards of nursing practice. Reviews nursing assignments and revises as necessary to meet specific needs of patients and/or to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Implements disciplinary interventions, including termination, as appropriate and in compliance with policy.
- Utilizes resources in manner which is appropriate and which optimizes resources for benefit of organization. Identifies efficiency or cost saving ideas and reports to executive leadership.
- Develops annual capital and operational budgets with assistance from nursing administration personnel. Completes payroll editing at end of payroll cycle and maintains attendance records.
Education Experience Required
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas with a minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing upon hire.
- Five (5) years’ experience in the healthcare field with at least two (2) years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
- A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Must have a Master’s Degree within 3 years of hire.
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development or relevant certification in specialty area, education, or leadership is required within 18 months of hire.
