This is a Full-Time role and you will report to the Executive Project Design & Delivery.
The Design and Planning (D+P) Studio Business Operations Manager will partner with the studio executive, department executives, and individual project leaders to develop and implement business plans for the studio operation as well as for projects. You will provide financial guidance and collaborate with D+P executives on operating and financial strategies. Responsibilities span a wide variety of traditional roles, including project manager, finance, engineering, planner, producer, and business development, and ultimately involve planning for the short- and long-term strategic growth of the D+P organization and reviewing our progress towards those goals.
Lead development and execution of annual operating, financial, and resource plans, monthly forecasts, etc. that support the high-level department goals.
Provide financial guidance that improves spending towards the achievement of strategic goals and guides decision-making toward a sound financial perspective.
Understand, consolidate, and review capital costs to provide an overarching view of spending compared to plan.
Produce ongoing financial, risk, and development reports to status the health and progress of each project towards its goals in partnership with Project Finance and key WDI stakeholders.
Ensure studio transfer rates are achieved, operating budget targets met, Operational Improvement Projects completed, and capital expenditures properly distributed.
Develop business models for potential new lines of business and communicate value to company stakeholders.
Assist with the development of actionable work plans that move internal projects efficiently toward successful completion and organize defined scope into implementable phases.
Own the work-plan process for internal projects (development, submittal, approval, and tracking) ensuring the project focus, achievements, and spending are captured and aligned with department priorities/funding and tracking progress against plan.
Proactively collaborate with project teams to ensure smooth execution.
Actively identify and resolve risk elements that could affect the schedule and budget.
Prepare and deliver executive presentations that represent the financial goals and strategies of the studio.
Long-term planning of capital equipment needs and development of justifications.
Work with D+P studio and WDI executives to make sound business decisions that drive the D+P team towards their goals.
Work with functional managers to develop department resource plans that inform future hiring strategies.
Work with Project Engineers to project financial trend analyses and Earned Value reports.
Handle relationships with Disney Finance groups and financial communications with executive stakeholders.
Translate, rationalize, and effectively communicate studio strategies and organizational needs to the WDI Finance organization.
Assist with department planning and priority setting.
Work with the Sourcing and Procurement department to establish and maintain vendor contracts.
Contribute to department culture and community.
Develop and mentor others in the department.
Required Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of experience in Business and/or Finance.
Strong business sense and Disney knowledge and its core areas or themed entertainment business experience is desired.
Ability to translate high-level vision/scope descriptions into actionable plans.
Understanding of the business of design.
Experience working with development teams and prototype products.
Ability to distill complex information, including financial details, into engaging high-level messages accessible to a wide audience.
Experience forming positive working relationships with a variety of teams, seniority levels, and personality types.
Curious and interested to learn about scope and tools outside previous experience.
Excellent organizational and time management skills who can seamlessly lead and prioritize multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
Able to develop, maintain, and improve process and planning tools.
Influence strategic direction with senior executives.
Comfortable working in a creative and fast-paced environment.
Willing and able to quickly grasp new concepts and relationships of those concepts to overall goals, demonstrating adaptability.
Strategic problem solver with the ability to synthesize and present information and advance business strategies by applying strong analytical skills.
Positive with a strong work ethic.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related strategy-based field is required.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) with emphasis on estimating controls, design management, or finance Management is preferred.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $131,700.00 - $181,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.Job tags
