The Operation Manager works closely with the Branch Manager to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations of the branch on a day-to-day basis. You will utilize your leadership, customer service and decision-making skills as you are the right hand for the Branch Manager.
Essential Functions
Distribution yard:
- Proper receipt of all incoming equipment including verification of counts, inspection of the condition of the equipment and the completion of all required paperwork
- Properly account for equipment that is to be charged to the customer.
- Responsible for inventory management
- Communication of level of inventories to management
- Hold weekly morning yard meetings to discuss daily objectives and safety issues.
- Maintaining well organized and safe premises.
Transportation:
- Responsible for the management of all drivers
- Schedule and coordinate all equipment transportation with necessary attachments.
- Perform weekly truck inspections for proper safety equipment, truck accessories and the condition of the interior and exterior.
- Hold weekly morning meetings to discuss schedule and safety issues.
- Monitor all truck preventive maintenance, licensing, and D.O.T. requirements.
- Monitor the driver's time worked and minimize overtime as much as possible.
- Ensure drivers next run is ready before they arrive back at the yard to minimize dead time between runs.
Service:
- Schedule tire repairs on yard and to on-rent equipment
- Maintain a rental part inventory.
- Monitor equipment that is out for repair and estimate ETA for getting the unit back.
- Work with Service Manager on all customer damages
Inside Sales:
- Handle walk-in customers.
- Provide support to all outside sales efforts.
- Assist in the training and development of new sales coordinators.
- Handle phone orders and sales questions
- Develop the market through phone contacts.
- Ensure the shop logs and SharePoint are up to date.
Operations:
- Maintain small equipment for retail sales inventory.
- Maintain fuel log daily and code fuel to correct corresponding department such as
- rental, sales, wash rack.
- Send monthly fuel allocation report to Branch Manager on the last day of the month.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the rental branch including making sure nothing is off rent for more than a week.
- Ensure branch is good on NTO's and is in good standing with Credit Manager
- Responsible for completing equipment requisitions for customer sales.
- Ensure that SOPs are being followed.
- Make sure all invoices are paid and processed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Confirm all keys are accounted for, sent out with equipment, and returned and billed out when necessary.
- Complete weekly cycle counts of the rental fleet.
- Check outgoing contracts for accuracy including rates, delivery fees and stock numbers.
- The operations manager will be versed in the following topics:
- All aspects of the business operation and markets
- All safety regulations concerning the products, their safe use, and the safety of the facility.
- Proper use of the equipment

Required Education and Experience
- 2-4 years of rental and/or dealership experience
- Construction equipment experience
- Experience processing detailed paperwork.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma
Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities - When Branch Manager is away the Operations Manager leads the branch with the assistance of a Regional or District Manager
Work Environment
- The environment is consistent with that of front desk, customer service office with regular trips into the repair shop and outdoor environments.
Travel Required
- Frequent travel to field branches (Travel up to 35% of the time)
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and phone.
- Occasionally lift up to 50lbs
- Must be physically able to bend, squat, crouch, and reach.
