Job description
Norris High School is accepting applications for a high school social sciences teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The Norris Social Sciences Department strives to prepare critically thinking students in the areas of US and world history, geography, government, psychology, and sociology. The candidate chosen to fill this position will work closely with experienced social sciences teachers in both the middle and high schools in planning program curriculum. Program specifics include:
Base pay 2024-25: $40,100
Full single or family insurance
11 non specified leave days (88 hours) per year
15 days of paid parental leave for birth/adoption of a child.
Required qualifications: certified or ability to be certified as a secondary social sciences teacher
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of Global Perspectives, American Government, American History, Global Perspectives, Modern Problems, Psychology, Sociology, and additional courses while utilizing the courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
Leads effective instruction in a classroom setting.
Evaluates each student’s growth in skills, knowledge, and contribution in the social sciences curricular area.
Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
Works cooperatively with other social sciences teachers at the middle and high school levels in planning a balanced social sciences program.
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve problems.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
