The Applied Geographics Division (AppGeo) of The Sanborn Map Company is a leader in geospatial analytics, services and solutions and is looking to grow our team. We seek a talented, experienced Geospatial Data Scientist with a strong understanding of geospatial data and use cases, and who is passionate about learning and attracted to the vibrancy of a dynamic business environment. The successful applicant will join a top-notch team of professionals focused on solving complex geospatial problems and delivering high-quality solutions to our customers.
Position Responsibilities
- Data discovery
- Scripting to automate data collection, transformation, and analysis of public and private data sources to meet client needs
- Ensure efficient processes and search out new, improved methods of data collection, cleaning, and analysis
- Learning new tools (software, scripting languages, etc.) and evaluating their utility for project workflows
- Developing and maintaining workflow documentation
- Creating reports, maps, presentations for clients
- Coordination of data development tasks with project managers to meet client needs
- QA/QC of internal processes and outputs
The ideal candidate must have:
- 5 years experience using statistical techniques to answer business questions and make data-driven decisions
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in geospatial analytics with a proven record of scripted workflow development
- Proficiency in geospatial data science, descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Proficiency with ESRI suite of mapping and visualization tools and/or open-source equivalents
- Proficiency in Python or R for geospatial data processing and presentation
- Familiarity with ETL software (FME, Alteryx, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, and ability to communicate complex technical information to both professionals and non-specialists
Advantageous Technology Skills and Exposure:
- Relational database management (SQL, PostgreSQL)
- Experience with open-source land cover classification methodologies and tools
- Familiarity with using GitHub repositories for versioning and documentation
- HTML/CSS
- Machine learning
- Public demographic and economic datasets (Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Reserve, etc.)
Advantageous education/experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Statistics, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
Position Location: Boston, MA, Hybrid/Remote
Annual Salary Range - $67k to $106k Annual
