Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Curator for the Zimmerli Art Museum. Founded in 1966 as the Rutgers University Art Gallery, the Zimmerli Art Museum is located on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, one of the United States' highest-ranked, most diverse public universities. With a permanent collection of more than 60,000 objects and an active program of changing exhibitions, the Zimmerli plays a dynamic part in the academic and cultural life of Rutgers and central New Jersey. The Associate Curator of Soviet Non-Conformist Art is a permanent, full time staff member who assists in managing activities related primarily to the Dodge Collection, working under the supervision of the Zimmerli's Curator of Russian and Soviet Nonconformist Art.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Participates in the ongoing research, particularly with an eye to decolonizing the presentation of the collection, development of new interpretations and voices, and preservation and promotion of the collection by curating, as well as managing special exhibitions from the collection and smaller periodic collection rotations.
• Schedules and manages seeing through to successful completion, exhibition related publications.
• Suggests and implements related educational programs.
• Acts as project manager responsible for the realization of exhibitions by graduate students and guest curators.
• Spearheads the creation  and manages a new website for the Dodge Collection, including soliciting new research and essays from a diverse pool of scholars.
• Oversees work performed by Graduate Fellows in the department. In consultation with the Curator and Research Curator, they track ongoing conservation and framing efforts and contributes to the management of the budget, overseen by the Curator.
• Supervises the full-time Archivist/Librarian, as well as occasional work by the work-study students, interns, and part-time assistants.
• They are expected to be active and visible member of the Zimmerli staff and institute the highest professional standards in the field, advance the institution's mission, execute, and develop support for its programs, and to meet the goals of its long-range plan which includes diversifying the collection, expanding research to include new voices, and to work alongside the director and other curators to diversify the museum.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• M.A in 20th-21st-century art history.
• 2+ years of curatorial experience in an art institution, with a successful record of accomplishment, record of exhibitions, and publications.
