Job Title: Data Engineering Manager
Position Location: Raleigh, NC
Your impact:
As a Data Engineering Manager at Coastal Credit Union, you'll lead our data engineering team in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data infrastructure and solutions. The Data Engineering Manager will play a critical role in driving the strategic direction of our data initiatives, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our data systems, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.
To be successful in this role, you are expected to:
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Work closely with data science, analytics, and reporting teams to build data products and deliver solutions to business teams
- Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to team members to maximize their potential and performance.
- Design, implement, and optimize scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support data ingestion, processing, storage, and analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient and reliable technical solutions.
- Establish and enforce data governance standards, policies, and best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Implement data quality monitoring and validation processes to maintain high standards of data accuracy and reliability and resolve data quality issues.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and trends in data engineering and analytics.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and platforms to enhance our data capabilities and drive innovation.
- Manage vendor relationships and oversee the integration of third-party tools and services into our data ecosystem.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies in data processes and systems, and implement optimizations to improve scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Work closely with infrastructure teams to ensure the availability, performance, and resilience of data infrastructure components.
Developing team by:
- Identifying each of your team member's talents and helping them do more of their best work
- Holding meaningful weekly check-ins with each team member to build relationship, trust, and provide the opportunity for coaching, feedback, and recognition
- Conducting periodic performance evaluations
- Building a culture that embodies Coastal's values
- Cross-training to ensure optimal coverage
- Ensuring your staff has the knowledge and tools needed to perform well
- Successfully recruiting additional staff as needed
Protecting Coastal by:
- Resolving audit and exam findings
- Ensuring the BCP preparedness of your team

Required Experience:
- Four years' experience in a data engineering or data platforms role, with demonstrated expertise in designing and building scalable data infrastructure and solutions
Experience with:
- Leading and managing high-performing teams
- Data engineering concepts, technologies, and best practices, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and big data technologies
- Programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, as well as experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Snowflake or Databricks, and related services
- Problem solving and strategic/analytical thinking
- Communicating and building rapport with all levels of an organization
Preferred Experience:
- Working in an Agile environment including Agile methodologies and practices
- Jack Henry core banking systems or similar core banking platforms, including experience with core system integrations and customization. OpCOn, SQL Server
Education:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
