Assists Director of Dental Health Programs and/or Public Health Hygienist. Provides office assistance in preparing paperwork for and follow-up after school visits. Provides oral health education to school- age children.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One year of dental assisting or surgical assisting experience will substitute for dental/surgical assisting education program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Certificate in Office and Dental Assisting preferred.
2. Successful completion of a dental assisting or surgical assisting program is preferred
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provides dental/office assisting support to the dentist and/or public health hygienist. More specifically the assistant will help set up and tear down equipment at each individual school location
2. Provide assistance in sanitizing the work area, ensuring all equipment is clean, sanitized, and disinfected at all times; obtaining dental supplies and instruments from stock area; preparing and arranging dental instruments and materials for use during patient care; cleaning dental instruments and equipment by appropriate methods; returning instruments and dental equipment to appropriate area(s); setting up and assisting with the operation of a wide variety of highly specialized patient care equipment.
3. Provides other support during the delivery of patient care by: obtaining / accessing various records and recording treatment procedures or other information within the electronic and/or paper record.
4. Provides and monitors areas for proper infection control to ensure providers are in compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as infection control policies of the organization; maintaining current MSDS records, updating records as appropriate; maintaining the confidentiality of patient and business-related information, without infraction.
5. Provides assistance to other office personnel in the preparation of patient records, paperwork, and data entry necessary for the School Dental Program
6. Provides oral health education to children in the public schools.
7. Adheres to proper attendance and punctuality standards.
8. Provides clerical assistance as needed within clinics.

1. Must meet Department of Labor's MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-10 hour shift.
3. Position requires dexterity, mobility and accuracy in chair-side assisting.
4. Position requires moving of equipment daily including the ability to lift at least 50 pounds

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse.
2. Answer telephones and transcribe messages.
3. Communicate verbally, written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
4. May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.
