Job Title: Nursing Supervisor
FLSA: Exempt
Reporting Functions: Reports to the Director of Priest Services.
Job Function: The Nursing Supervisor oversees the Villa staff to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care and compliance with all policies. The Nursing Supervisor is a qualified Registered Nurse who provides professional guidance and training for personnel, manages disciplinary issues, prepares administrative reports, reviews staffing, and integrates resident services with other Villa departments. The Nurse Supervisor also monitors development and training for personnel to ensure staffing needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule, coordinate, evaluate, and supervise staff, assuring full coverage.
- Schedule, monitor and supervise work to ensure the highest level of quality and compliance to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide direct nursing care to the residents.
- Hire and train aides to safely administer medications; supervise and evaluate medication technicians and aides; assign duties and coordinate nursing services.
- Participate in developing nursing protocol and procedures.
- Schedule continuing education and staff development opportunities for staff and aides.
- Assess resident's needs; participate in providing nursing care; ensure services are carried out and documented appropriately.
- Maintain confidential resident health care records.
- Maintain supply inventory records; order supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Promote adherence to the Villa's Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics by monitoring employee performance and identifying and responding to employee or compliance issues.
- Assure that residents' rights, individuality, and privacy are respected by all personnel.
- Notify the Director of Priest Services of any change in the resident's condition or of any accident or incident involving the residents.
- Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.
- Develop and review resident care plans, medication sheets and physician's order sheets on a regular basis.
- Receive daily report from direct care staff on condition of residents.
- Inform physicians of important care-related information or of changes in resident's condition and follow physician's instructions.
- Seek appropriate medical attention in situations of distress in accord with policy.
- Administer medications and execute treatments as ordered by the physician, when necessary.
- Take verbal and telephone orders from attending physicians according to procedure.
- Order prescribed medications from the pharmacy according to procedure.
- Assure narcotic records are always current and all narcotics are properly secured.
- Chart informative nurse's notes that reflect the care provided as well as the resident's response to care.
- Assist physicians when necessary and encourage them to write the required documentation.
- Give and receive informative nursing report upon beginning and ending a designated shift when necessary.
- Perform professional nursing services as directed.
- Evaluate emergencies and determine measures to be used.
- Supervise and assist the nursing and medication assistants on shift.
- Discipline Villa staff according to policy, in consultation with the Director of Priest Services.
- Review all resident priest and employee complaints and grievances and report them to the Director of Priest Services.
- Assist staff with scheduling doctors' appointments for residents when necessary.
- Maintain a working rapport with physicians, keeping the physician aware of the resident's health status and needs.
- Perform any additional tasks as designated by the Director of Priest Services or other duties as assigned.
- Facilitate and maintain all communication with Diocesan Human Resources in relation to, but not limited to, all staffing needs.
- Maintain payroll records, time off requests for staffing.
Educational Requirements:
- Must be an RN; BSN preferred to practice in the Commonwealth of PA
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified.
- 3-5 years of nursing experience in a hospital, residential care, or skilled nursing setting
- 1 to 2 years supervisory/leadership experience required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities as cited above.

- Must be knowledgeable of current nursing procedures.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, physicians, family members, visitors, government agencies and the public.
- Must be able to safely operate all equipment as needed.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, physicians, family members, visitors, governmental agencies, and the public.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding treatment plans, personnel actions, and other managerial matters. Responsible for HIPAA compliance.
Working Conditions:
Nursing office, resident's room, and dining room. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. May be required to work more than scheduled work hours.
Physical Demands:
While performing the essential duties of this job, an employee must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach and lift and move intermittently throughout the work shift, including the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
