About this Position

The Archery Instructor core duties will include facilitating community archery programs for youth and adults such as Intro to Archery, Archery Club, Archery League, and Open Archery.

Upon hire, this position receives training on the skills, safety, and curriculum needed to facilitate safe and high-quality archery program experiences. Training is to be completed before facilitating programs. No archery experience is necessary, program facilitation experience is preferable.


This position will work no more than 13.5 hours/week and requires a variety of weekend, weeknight, and daytime availability, typically facilitating archery two evenings per week. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

For both one-of-a-kind and repetitive tasks, the supervisor makes specific assignments that are accompanied by clear, detailed, and specific instructions. Incumbents work as instructed and consult with the supervisor.

1. Facilitate community archery programs for youth and adults.
2. Establish a detailed plan, which outlines the program's projected lesson schedule and progress schedule.
3. Provide and operate a safe and quality archery range experience for participants.
4. Provide quality archery skills education.
5. Transport, set up, and tear down equipment.
6. Responsible for administering good judgment and must possess the ability to contact the proper supervisors and authorities.
7. Required to communicate clearly, courteously, and tactfully with students, parents, and the general public providing excellent customer service.
8. Be an effective team member by exhibiting self-motivation, supporting other employees in handling tasks, interacting effectively and respectfully with others, showing a desire to contribute to the team effort, accepting assignments willingly, and completing tasks within agreed upon timelines.
9. Other duties may be assigned.1. Age Requirement
A. Must be age 18 or older.

2. License Requirement
A. Possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license or privilege.

3. Education & Experience Requirements
A. Experience in teaching, instructing, or leading activities is preferred.
B. Ability to obtain training as a Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) through NASP and receive certifications, training is to be completed upon hire before facilitating programs.

4. Knowledge Requirements
A. Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe environment for recreation archery program participants.
B. Knowledge of basic fundamentals and techniques of archery to be able to perform a variety of duties related to the work assignment.
C. Knowledge of problem solving and conflict resolution techniques.
D. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, City policies and procedures.

5. Skill Requirements
A. Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating and assisting in the direction of the development and implementation of the recreation archery program.
B. Exemplary customer service skills.
C. Skill in the operation of office equipment including, but not limited to, general computer systems, job required software applications, the internet, and modern office equipment.
D. Skill in managing one's own time.
E. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

6. Ability Requirements
A. Ability to identify needs, provide prompt responses, and exercise patience, respect, and professionalism in all interactions.
B. Ability to listen actively and communicate effectively in order to understand the needs of program participants and the general public.
C. Ability to represent the organization to other agencies and citizens with a courteous, helpful, and friendly attitude.

Physical Demands
The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above.

Work Environment
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress requiring a range of safety and other precautions (e.g., working at great heights under extreme outdoor weather conditions, or in similar situations in which conditions cannot be controlled).If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to arrange an interview for this position.
