Job Summary
The Area Coordinator is a member of the Hall Supervision and Staffing team within Residential Life - University Housing. Area Coordinators are responsible for the implementation of a residential curriculum model focused on educating students in a residential area (areas range in size from 1,800 - 2,800 students in a total resident population of approximately 8,500) in the areas of academic success, personal growth, community engagement and social justice exploration. This is accomplished via the direct supervision of full-time professional staff and overall management and leadership within Residential Life, including the development of policies and procedures for the area and unit.

This position requires the ability to multi-task and move around campus effectively in a busy, fast-paced and unpredictable environment. It also requires some lifting. Work will take place in office and residence hall environments including but not limited to, student common and meeting space and various administrative offices/spaces on campus. The person in this position is typically expected to work standard business hours with some nights and weekends required for duty and other programmatic or operational responsibilities. This position is live off.

Minimum Qualifications


Education: Master's degree


Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience in residential life, college or university conference services, any campus housing environment, student affairs involvement and/or leadership experiences or work in a related field (Higher education, counseling, diversity education, social work, etc. (Graduate assistantships are considered part-time work and do not count toward full-time experience). Experience directly supervising staff. Experience working with diverse populations.



Preferred Qualifications


Education: Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or a related field.


Experience: Current work in residential life or university or college housing. Advanced supervisory skills, demonstrated leadership and management of day-to-day residence hall operations, successful community building strategies, conflict mediation skills, extremely strong interpersonal skills, and sound decision-making and evaluative skills. Preference is also given to those who demonstrate openness to constructive feedback and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and students. Demonstrated leadership in working successfully with diverse college student populations and engaging in social justice educational strategies. Experience implementing a residential curriculum.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Knowledge of student learning, student development and identity development theories. Knowledge of residential curriculum philosophy and strategies. Excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to speak other languages in addition to English is a plus.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/8/2024. The salary for this position is $60,000.00.
