JOB SUMMARY: Plan, organize, and implement strategies to increase the level of personal engagement and financial commitment of existing MCASD Curator’s Circle, Director’s Circle, and Avant Garde members. Emphasis will be given to establishing and achieving increased annual support from individuals, corporate partners, and as well as identifying new prospects to join. Work closely with the Advancement team and inter-departmentally to identify, qualify, cultivate, and steward the Museum’s most promising individual and corporate donor prospects in the community and play a key role in moving donors along the giving pipeline. Execute the Museum’s Annual Fund, Upper-Level Membership, and Major Gifts strategic fundraising activities to steward existing donors, solicit increased support, and acquire new donors. Support mission and vision of Museum throughout performance of duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Relationship & Moves Management - Assist the Director, Philanthropy, in implementing strategies to upgrade existing individual donors and corporate supporters to major and/or planned gift donors, soliciting gifts in the $1,000 to $25,000 range.
- Schedule in-person or virtual visits each week to cultivate relationships with existing individual donors, corporate partners, and prospects.
- With the Manager, Membership, and Membership Associate, create and implement a strategic focus around individual outreach and prospect management to increase annual giving.
- Work closely with the Director, Philanthropy, and CAO to manage the Advancement Committee. Partner with Committee members to identify prospect opportunities.
- Activate the MCASD collections, unitize dynamic exhibition schedule, and existing programs to engage donors.
- Actively steward Avant Garde members as a pipeline for major gifts. Work inter-departmentally with the Education and Curatorial teams to develop and plan two to four programs per year for Avant Garde.
- Act as a trusted Museum liaison and contact person for the Upper-Level Members, Donors, and Board Members.
Marketing & Communications - Work with the Marketing & Communications team to produce content for Upper-Level event invitations and other communications as needed.
- Ensure Giving Circles webpage and materials are up-to-date.
- Develop traditional mail and digital giving activities for the Museum’s end of year and end of fiscal year appeals.
- Produce, print, and mail renewal letters for Upper-Level donors.
Donor Events & Cultivation - With the Director, Special Events, plan and execute cultivation and stewardship events for upper-level donors ( Director’s and Curator’s Circle, Avant Garde, Axline Society, Trustees, etc.).
- Identify and solicit both individual and corporate donors to participate in event underwriting and ticket purchases for The Gala and Art Auction.
- Track and manage RSVPs, onsite event registration, and follow-up.
- Assist with on-site and virtual Advancement and membership events as needed.
Administrative - Prepare acknowledgement letters and tax deductibility information for members in an appropriately personalized and timely manner.
- Track renewals, outstanding pledges, and monitor pledge payment activity and reminders.
- Maintain up-to-date donor recognition preference and requirements to ensure accuracy of online, signage, and printed materials.
- Regularly report to senior leadership and the Board on the status of annual fund and development efforts.
- Work between both Museum locations, be available for special events, including weekends and/or after regular business hours, as needed.
- Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: Strong p roactive, visionary fundraising, and development skills and abilities. Proven track record in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of philanthropic gifts from individual donors. Results-oriented with excellent organizational and planning skills. Entrepreneurial mindset, self-starter, and team player. Positive energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility in performance of duties. Strong negotiation and presentation skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional decorum, tact, diplomacy in all situations. Ability to effectively interact with employees, members, Trustees, and donors. Strong technical skills with a proficiency in database management and MS Office.
Bachelor ’ s degree and five years of development and/or fundraising experience with one year of experience supporting or managing an annual fund program or any equivalent education and experience. Event planning experience a plus. Knowledge of and/or experience in contemporary art preferred.
