Job description

What you will be doing:

The Natural Resource Technician 2 position is responsible for managing and maintaining oil and gas documents by sorting, evaluating, and classifying submitted information to provide complete, accurate, and timely records. This information is available to government agencies, Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC) technical staff, the regulation community, and the public. This position is the primary point of contact for, and responder to, all public record requests pertaining to physical data.

The AOGCC is an independent, quasi-judicial agency of the State of Alaska that regulates drilling, development, and production of oil, gas, and geothermal resources in Alaska. The core mission of the AOGCC is to protect the public interest by preventing waste, ensuring greater recovery and the protection of health, safety, fresh ground waters, and the rights of all owners to recover their share of the resource. This position is a valuable member of the administrative support team that ensures the State of Alaska's extensive oil and gas data is correctly and accurately managed.

The working environment you can expect:
The AOGCC office is located in Downtown Anchorage near the Park Strip, in a single-story building with plenty of free, private parking available. A typical day includes data entry within structured databases as well as managing a large collection of historical oil and gas documents. This position provides excellent customer service to a variety of state agencies, members of the public and industry, while filling public records requests.

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for an applicant that has the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Six months of experience at the entry level performing technical functions of natural resource management equivalent to a Natural Resource Technician 1, Forest Technician 3 or Environmental Technician 1 with the State of Alaska.

OR
Six months of clerical work experience equivalent to an Administrative Clerk 3 or Recorder 1 with the State of Alaska.

OR
16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution.

OR
Any combination of the above where 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours is equivalent to one month of experience.

At time of interview applicant(s) are requested to submit:
  1. A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are okay, please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts)if using to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.
  2. Three (3) professional references including current contact information.

    One (1) reference should be from a past or current supervisor; no personal references will be accepted.

  3. Copies of your last two (2) performance evaluations. If performance evaluations are unavailable, please provide letters of reference. 

Special Notice:
After the panel interview, applicants will perform a skills demonstration in Microsoft Excel and Access. This is a timed exercise of 45 minutes.
