Overview General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an Intern opportunity to join our Garland Team for the summer. We are about supporting the mission of the warfighter. Our products can be found with every U.S. Military branch with allies around the world. We are looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help shape and support this organization.
The Engineering Intern will be responsible for completing an assigned project(s) under the direction of staff engineers and with assistance from other personnel.
Responsibilities Internship will take place
- at any time as your school schedule allows for a Part-Time internship during school OR
- traditional summer time from May 13, 24 to August 2, 24.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides support to professional employees working in an organizational function related to the Intern's area of study.
- Learns organizational processes and procedures.
- Contributes to assigned projects and may assist with the development and maintenance of documentation or records.
- Handles basic issues and problems
- Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform engineering analytical reviews of manufacturing processes and procedures
- Provide Management recommendations for improvement in efficiencies and/or cost savings
- Develop and implement standard operating instructions and training in conjunction with employees
- Create 3D models and drawings (Solidworks) for tooling and equipment.
- Measure process center and machine cycle times
- Measure and validate work center/equipment Hours per Unit (HPU)
- Create/Update process mapping for work centers.
- Create/Update Value Stream Map (VSM) for work centers.

Qualifications Education:
- Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university
- High School Diploma/GED

- Strong analytical and qualitative abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a diverse employee population are essential.

- Must demonstrate organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, using discretion and independent judgment
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
- May work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- May be requested to work a different shift.
